Your token journey
IPMS helps you transform personal data into pseudonyms so you can share and analyse data containing personal identifiers while protecting individual privacy and complying with GDPR.
Pseudonymisation with IPMS involves two systems that work together: the IPMS Portal and the INCERT service.
This two-party architecture ensures your privacy remains protected while allowing you to securely pseudonymise data:
- IPMS Portal knows who you are and manages your settings, but never sees your data.
- INCERT service processes your data for pseudonymisation, but only validates your token, not your identity.
The workflow
To pseudonymise your data, you interact with the IPMS Portal to generate tokens, and then use those tokens to pseudonymise your data through INCERT. The Portal manages your projects and settings, while INCERT processes your data according to the parameters you defined in the Portal.
Step 1: Generate your token in the IPMS Portal
To pseudonymise your data, you first need to generate an authentication token in the IPMS Portal. This token is your key to using INCERT, the backend pseudonymisation service.
First, you use the IPMS Portal to set up your project (or open an existing project) and request a token:
Step 2: Use your token to pseudonymise data with INCERT
Once you have your token, you use it to pseudonymise your data through INCERT, the backend pseudonymisation service:
The complete workflow
- Create or open a project: Set up your pseudonymisation settings (reversibility, format, collaboration partners)
- Submit a request: Request a token for the specific dataset you want to pseudonymise
- Receive your token: After approval (if required), get your authentication token
- Pseudonymise your data: Use the token to send your data directly to INCERT for processing
- Get pseudonyms: INCERT returns your pseudonymised data according to your project settings
